Something you thought you'd never hear me say:

I actually quite like this getting up and working early lark! Yes my mum was shocked. Yes I'm not generally a morning person, especially since I've been working in a pub for the past 3 years and I've been on the 11am - 12midnight day for all this time (also being a student hasn't helped). But getting up at 5.45am to get to Preston for work at 7am the other day was relatively painless, and I was bouncing within about half an hour of getting there. Most of the initial half hour was confusion, given that it was my first proper shift and I had no idea what I was supposed to be doing.

Today I had a later shift (11am) which runs through to the close. We ended up finishing at 7pm. By the time I got home I didn't want to make any tea and got a Chinese takeaway, which I cannot afford, monetarily, or calorifically. So I have decided that early shifts are the best, as I can be home by 5 and make something proper to eat. Also there’s no cleaning to do, and more importantly, no mopping, a job which I cannot stand. I actually got to make the coffees today which was fun, although I got myself in a bit of a tizz when it got a little bit busy, and I’m not as quick as the older staff, but hey, it was my first day. I think it all went well, and it was actually quite a lot of fun. Anyway the job’s going pretty well so far and so I’m a happy bunny.

I've never met one person who enjoys mopping (it's got so bad in the zoo that they've employed people who's specific job it is to mop)

Also: is calorifically a word?

If it's not a word, then it should be. I've met people who like mopping, and I don't hate it, just I'd rather not do it if at all possible.

I know what you mean about getting up early - when I can manage to drag my sorry self out of bed at an early hour, I generally really enjoy the day ... AND I don't feel bad about having a few hours off for a snooze in the afternoon :).

Mopping is hell.
